Why do we need to protect our planet?
Our planet Earth is important to look after for future children. Plants and animals need healthy habitats or places in which to live and get food and water. When habitats are made dirty by pollution, it can make people, animals, and plants sick. If we don't look after the Earth, plants and animals around the world will go extinct, which means that they will die out.

The Amazon Rainforest is one example of a habitat that is in danger and which we need to save. The rainforest gives off oxygen into the air that you breathe. It is a very important part of the Earth. |
What can we do?
When we throw something away, it becomes garbage. All of the garbage goes into landfills, which are dirty and which use up land. Plastic is one of the worst kinds of garbage. Plastic bags are used to carry groceries home from the grocery store. These take a very long time to break down and become part of the dirt. You can use paper bags instead.

Another way we can help the environment is to reduce, reuse, and recycle. You can reduce the amount of paper you use by writing on both sides of each piece. Also, you can reuse things and not just throw them away. Ask your parents to save plastic food containers so that you can reuse them to take your lunch to school. And you might be able to recycle cans, paper, and plastic, which means they can be used to make brand new products. Ask your teacher about your school's recycling program, and make sure to keep those cans out of our landfills.
What you do locally can affect the world globally. You can help save Earth! It is our job to protect and look after the world. |
