The Passing of Kent D. Williamson

On June 7, Kent D. Williamson passed away after a long illness. Kent was the Executive Director of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).

Kent was always a champion for the ReadWriteThink.org site. He was proud of what the siteís quality content and that it could inspire so many teachers and their classroom instruction. He accomplished and envisioned ways in which the site could continue to grow and flourish to benefit all those who used it.

Kent Williamsonís life and legacy will be honored in multiple ways. The Kent D. Williamson Policy and Advocacy Center has been established to continue Kentís commitment to supporting educators through effective policies and practices. A memorial gift can be addressed to NCTE with notation that it is in memory of Kent: the gift will contribute to the work of the Center. Memorials can also be made online.

All of us who benefited from Kent's ideas and leadership are thankful for the continuing influence of his vision.
